This research investigated the effectiveness of applying the Conditioned Emotional Response Intervention Technique (CERIT) in treating a male adult client with Hysterical Dyskinesia. The main symptom, his incapability of walking, was treated. A modified ABAB design was employed to examine the effects of the treatment. Symptoms for Hysterical Dyskinesia were verified during the baseline stage. After the first intervention stage, the symptoms disappeared. The client was released from treatment with the expectation that the symptoms would relapse. The client was directed to come back for further treatment at that point. The symptoms returned after one month. Additional intervention eliminated the symptoms again and taught the client how to handle the situation if the symptoms started to reappear. A 10-month follow up indicated that the client has not had any similar problems since he was released the second time. These results suggested that the CERIT can be effective in treating Hysterical Dyskinesia. Future studies are needed to verify this finding. The advantages of the CERIT in treating Hysterical Dyskinesia and the limitations of this case study will be discussed.
