The rapid development of economy, urbanization, and motorization has brought us many challenges.The fast increase of car ownership is a matter of frequent consideration in the transport sector in the last few decades.How to control the growth of car ownership is a quite hard question for the authorities and policy makers to find the best solution.Carsharing has appeared as a novel alternative to private car in urban areas and larger cities.The application and popularization of the concept has resulted in effective private car reduction, reducing traffic congestion and overloaded of parking lot, and diminishing environmental pollution.This research seeks to determine the factors effecting travelers acceptance towards carsharing and the potential market segments to successful implementation of carsharing concept in China.A Stated Preference (SP) survey was carried out in Dalian, China, and a binary logit model was built to model travelers acceptance towards different carsharing systems.The results showed that several demographic factors may affect travelers decision making process.Gender, age, driving experience, education level, marital status and familiarity with the concept have great impact on travelers propensity to adopt carsharing.Findings from this study can be useful to transport planners and policy makers for the implementation and operation of carsharing systems in China.
