The paper examines Russia’s international multinational broadcaster RT,that was launched in 2005 with the direct support of the Russian government.RT implies the existence of an alternative power center – Russia – ‘holding it to account’,acting as a guardian of conservative values and an equal actor in global affairs,thereby promoting a positive image of Russia.This paper considers the strategy and the range of methods employed by RT,placing these within RT’s mission – from ‘providing alternative perspectives on current affairs’ to comprising those ‘who question more’ to acquaint with the Russian viewpoint on one of the major global events – the Syrian crisis.The paper deals with such issues as: the history of RT channel development,as well as the RT’s strategy and methods of the Russian international image formation,focused on a foreign audience in the framework of the Syrian crisis;Russia’s role in the armed conflict in Syria between the Syrian regime and the radical opposition,along with the actions of ISIS,that provoked the main military and political crisis in the Middle East with the participation of all major world powers;influence on the perception of Russia by the world community.The author mentions the need to form a positive public opinion,emphasizes the formation of a successful young media,that has pressured the world media by using an offensive strategy.The author turned to various methods of research in her work.Comparative methods of research were useful for the analysis of genre-thematic certainty and targeted orientation of informational messages competing in the world media space.Methods of content and discourse analyses were used to assess the effectiveness of the channel’s strategy and methods in building Russia’s image on the example of the Syrian crisis,within two key periods(‘deployment of Russian troops to Syria in 2015’ and ‘withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria in 2017’).The strategy and methods of RT’s work,innovative forms of interaction of RT channel with the foreign audience on the basis of modern information and communication technologies are studied;the effectiveness of these efforts on the image of Russia is assessed.
