After the September 18 Incident broke out, the Japanese Christians published a large number of peaceful anti-war remarks and made attempts to reconcile China and Japan in practice. However, most people did not recognize the injustice of Japan’s foreign wars. They opposed only the war itself, not the Japanese government that created the war. Such impure peace and de facto language are far from true pacifism and lack stability. After the Lugouqiao Incident broke out, the Japanese Christians rapidly turned to support the aggression. Although the direct inducement was blinded by the high-pressure policies and public opinion of the Japanese government, what was more important was the independent choice of Japanese Christians in the context of nationalism. This situation is prevalent in Japan’s religious circles, reflecting the fact that wartime Japanese religious circles did not really awake. On an enlarged basis, peace talks in Japan during wartime need to be re-evaluated.
