Covert hepatic encephalopathy is the preclinical stage of overt hepatic encephalopathy, early intervention can improve the outcome of patients effectively. However, the research on covert hepatic encephalopathy in patients with cirrhosis is still initial stage. There are many assessment tools for covert hepatic encephalopathy, and the screening methods are not uniform. This article reviews the application of covert hepatic encephalopathy screening tools, and analysis its advantages and disadvantages, in order to provid a reference for clinical medical staff to select the appropriate screening tool.
