Several retrospective studies have presented evidence that bladder cancer can be diagnosed by detecting tumor cell DNA in the urine. In this study, a prospective blinded test was used to test whether urine DNA testing can replace cystoscopy in the initial assessment of gross hematuria. Urine samples were routinely tested in 475 patients with gross hematuria, including cystoscopy and CTU, and urine samples were obtained before cystoscopy (n = 461) and cystoscopy (n = 444). The cells in the sample were collected by special screening equipment and used eight kinds of DNA
