Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to study the ultrastructure of decay poplar (Coriolus versicolor NFU008) and its ultrastructure and the way of degrading wood. The experimental results show that C. versicolor NFU008 not only has strong degradation ability to lignin but also has high selectivity. It preferentially degrades the lignin in the intercellular layer during decay and enables the fiber to dissociate. The results also showed that the myxoid mucus produced around it played a very important role in the wood decay process, they are involved in cell wall material degradation and metabolism. In addition, the gummy layers of the gummy fibers are very resistant to the causal agents of Coriolus versicolor, and they are essentially not damaged by decay throughout the decay process.
