在美国当代戏剧的进程中,奥古斯特·威尔逊是一位不可忽视的人物。他独具匠心地将历史、地域、音乐和宗教四大元素揉入自己的世纪之作,以此表达对黑人身份的认同。通过深入剖析他的系列作品,我们不难发现,这些元素在凸显了戏剧主题的同时,还折射出了一种浓郁的美国黑人民族情结。而这种民族情结既是威尔逊的创作动力,又是帮助黑人群体在经历了黑白两种文化冲突后进行自我定位的精神标杆。
In the process of American contemporary drama, August Wilson is a man who can not be ignored. His unique ingenious blend of the four major elements of history, geography, music and religion into his own century as a way of expressing his approval of black identity. Through in-depth analysis of his series of works, we can easily find that these elements in highlighting the theme of the drama, but also reflects a rich Afro-American national complex. And this kind of national complex is not only the driving force of Wilson’s creation, but also a spiritual benchmark to help the black groups to position themselves after experiencing the cultural conflicts of black and white.
