Since the beginning of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the northeastern and eastern coastal areas of China were occupied by the Japanese troops. Both the land and sea and land routes in the Far East of the Soviet Union and China were cut off. Therefore, Xinjiang, bordering on the Soviet Union, highlighted its unique geographical location and made it become China’s main channel for receiving international aid supplies from the Soviet Union to the Mainland during the early days of the war of resistance. From 1937 to 1941, 80% of the international aid supplies on the Chinese battlefield came from the Soviet Union. 90% of these supplies were shipped to the Mainland via Xinjiang via the Northwest International Grand Gateway.
