扶沟县棉花盲椿象常年都有不同程度发生，然而像２００１年严重发生和为害的程度属历史罕见。２００１年全县种植棉花５万hm２，盲椿象发生面积达３万hm２以上，有１万hm２的棉田造成２０％的减产，个别严重地块减产５０％以上。扶沟棉田内发生的盲椿象主要有苜蓿盲蝽、绿盲蝽 The cotton blind stinkbugs in Fugou County have been affected to varying degrees all the year round.
