这篇文章是中国音乐界的老朋友、20世纪30年代曾长期滞留中国的俄罗斯音乐家齐尔品(Alexander Tcherepnine)用英文写成,发表于美国《音乐季刊》(The Musical Quarterly)第21卷第4期(1935年10月)。作者以悠闲的笔触描绘了他在上海、北平等地的所见所闻所感。其中既有一般西方读者所感兴趣的东方风情,大多数又总能与音乐扯上关系;更有从专业角度对当时中国音乐的介绍、评论和建议;上海的国立音乐专科学校、萧友梅等均是他亲自接触和描述的对象。译者不久前因搜寻萧友梅留德后经美归国之有关史料,碰巧在美国发现了这篇沉睡七十余年的文章。作为对当时中国音乐生活的真实记录,本文颇有其历史价值。经查,文章自发表以来似从未传译到国内。叹为可惜,遂将其译出。
This article is an old friend of the Chinese music industry. The Russian musician Alexander Tcherepnine, who had long stranded in China in the 1930s, wrote it in English and was published in the 21st volume of The Musical Quarterly in the United States. 4 (October 1935). The author paints a leisurely brushwork of what he sees and hears in Shanghai and Peking. Among them, there are oriental customs that most western readers are interested in, most of them can always relate to music. There are also some introductions, reviews and suggestions on Chinese music from a professional point of view. Not long ago, the translator found this article in his sleep in the United States for more than 70 years due to the search of relevant historical materials about returning to China by Xiao Youmei after his stay in Germany. As a true record of the Chinese music life at that time, this article has its historical value. After investigation, the article seems to have never been translated into the country since its publication. Sigh pity, then translated it.
