If the barista just finished the move mechanically, or if he did not intend to make a too-espresso coffee that was either too light or too bitter, then Starbucks would lose the brand’s mission of keeping us on for 40 years: inspiring humankind. On the afternoon of a Tuesday in February 2008, Starbucks closed its stores in the United States. The 7,700 stores closed with the same notices: We are committed to perfecting our espresso.
