This paper gives an overview of the background of the major American poetry genres and the production of language poems in the late twentieth century, and then makes a detailed discussion on the aesthetic concepts of language poetry: language self-sufficiency, collage and arbitrariness, and reader’s textual interactivity. As the leader of Charles Bernstein’s works as an example.
