Objective: To investigate the relationship between tumor angiogenesis and breast cancer metastasis. METHODS: Microvascular density (MVD) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression were detected by immunohistochemical staining in a rat model of breast cancer induced by dimethyl benzoquinone (DMBA). Results: The expression of VEGF and VEGF in primary tumor MVD and tumor cells in metastasis group was significantly higher than that in non-metastatic group (P <0.01 and P <0. 2 respectively) and benign tumor group (both P <0. 0 1). Conclusion: VEGF-mediated angiogenesis may play an important role in promoting breast cancer metastasis.
