我国幅员辽阔,煤炭资源丰富,成煤时期多而长久。从早古生代的“石煤”到近代泥炭堆积,基本上各纪都有成煤作用发生。以昆仑山—秦岭—淮阳山为界分我国成南、北两部,北方主要发育有石炭—二迭纪、早—中侏罗世、晚侏罗—早白垩世、第三纪的四套含煤地层;南方则主要发育有早石炭世、晚二迭世、晚三迭—早侏罗世、第三纪的另外四套含煤地层。这些是我国境内的主要含煤地层,它们常在大范围内形成相当可观的煤炭资源。也还有其它一些含煤地层,如北方的下石炭统、上三迭统、南方的下二迭统、中侏罗统 Our country has a vast territory, abundant coal resources, long and prosperous coal-forming period.
