在本世纪初期,各地都开始推出不同版本的初中地理教材,同时在实验区推广应用。尽管教材版本各不相同,但是无论哪种教材,都提高了实践学习的比重。目前,很多学校的地理作业已经进一步完善,变为一种活动体系。当前众多地理教师都针对实践的内容进行了系统的讨论。然而由于不同文献中针对此类内容说的都是应用、介绍又或是评价方面的研究,同时也基本都是就单一一本教材或一种教材进行的研究,没有对整个初中地理教育体系进行完善的探索。
