Sulfide inclusions have a very important influence on the machinability of low-carbon and high-sulfur free-cutting steel. In actual production, it is desirable to obtain spindle-shaped or spherical sulfides. The oxygen content in steel can significantly affect the type and morphology of sulfides. The changes of the composition, particle size, aspect ratio and roundness of sulfides in cast and wire rod under different oxygen contents are mainly studied. The results show that the increase of oxygen content in the steel is conducive to the formation of spindle or spherical sulfide inclusions, wO = 0.014 0%, can be the ideal sulfide.
