ENDOVASCULAR EMBOLIZATION TO TREAT CAROTID CAVERNOUS FISTULAE

Fifty-two cases of post-traumatic or spontaneous carotid cavernous fistulas were treated using endovascular embolization through the common carotid artery and the superior ophthalmic vein. The technique of intervention, indication as well as therapeutic results are discussed in the paper. The methods of preserving internal carotid artery are recommended. The cure rate was 98.1% and 75% of the cases preserved the internal carotid artery.
