祁连山地理位置特殊，自然生态系统复杂，生物资源丰富，珍稀动植物种类繁多，动植物经济价值较高。区内有森林、草原、荒漠、寒漠、冻原、农田、水域、冰川等多种自然生态系统；１０４４种高等植物；２６７种野生动物；２１８种天敌昆虫；９８８种森林害虫。高等植物中有药用植物３００多种，属国家二级重点保护的植物２种；野生动物中属国家一级重点保护的动物１２种，属国家二级重点保护的动物３８种；是我国西北地区重要的生物基因库。
Qilian Mountain has special geographical location, complex natural ecosystems, rich biological resources, a great variety of rare animals and plants and high economic value of animals and plants. There are various natural ecosystems such as forests, grasslands, deserts, cold deserts, tundra, farmland, water area and glaciers, 1044 kinds of higher plants, 267 kinds of wild animals, 218 kinds of natural enemy insects and 988 kinds of forest pests. There are more than 300 kinds of medicinal plants in higher plants, which belong to 2 kinds of plants under the state’s two key protections.
