Objective To compare the effects of two different scanning slice thickness on the imaging of carotid multi-slice spiral CT (MDSCT) in order to obtain reasonable scanning parameters. Materials and Methods A total of 42 patients with cerebral infarction or cerebral infarction and symptomatic patients were randomly divided into 1.3mm layer thickness group and 3.2mm layer thickness group, and the other scanning parameters were the same. Two methods of post-processing imaging including maximum density projection (MIP) and volume reconstruction (VR) were used. According to the clarity of the carotid artery margins, the carotid artery branch level shows the situation of the comprehensive score, by two experienced radiologists using the blind score, all the statistical work by the SPSS software to complete. Results The total mass of carotid artery angiography was related to the reconstruction quality of the carotid artery by using two kinds of scanning slice thickness. When using MIP reconstruction, the 1.3mm layer thickness group was significantly better than the 3.2mm layer thickness group. When using VR, the overall quality of the two groups of images are excellent, the difference is not obvious. Conclusion The overall quality of multislice CT carotid artery angiography depends not only on the thickness of the layer, but also on the reconstruction of the image
