Nineteenth Century Britain’s outstanding critical realism writer Thomas Hardy’s novel “homecoming”, the hero’s tragedy gives the soul shock. This tragedy mainly reflects the misfortunes and disasters caused by the capitalist mode of production entering rural areas. Returning Homeland marks a turning point in Hardy’s novel creation. In this novel, we see Hardy’s idea of further development in later tragedies, in which uncontrollable external forces and inner impulses determine the fate of individuals and lead to tragedies. Inspired by his fine tradition of British critical realism, his work also opened the way to British literature in the twentieth century. Hardy used the novel to openly expose the banner of resistance to all social laws and regulations and set off a wave of overthrowing all “sacred moralities.”
