陈乃乾先生于本世纪三十年代出版了《室名索引》、《别号索引》两部工具书,为查阅古代文人的室名、别号给读者带来了不少方便也填补了文史工具书的空白。中华书局于1957年将陈先生两部工具书合并,改名为《室名别号索引》出版。嗣后,中华书局编辑部又收到丁宁先生、何文广先生、雷梦水先生的补编稿,汇为一编,名为《室名别号索引补编》,与《室名别号索 In the 1930s, Mr. Chen Naiqian published two reference books named Index of Names and Indexes of Alias.
