Researchers at Cornell University have invented a silicon chip with an antibody-composition diffraction grating that reveals the presence of potentially harmful bacteria through a combination of nanotechnology and biology. H. Craighead, professor of applied and engineering physics and C.Batt, a professor of food science, have printed the antibody pattern onto silicon using the microcontact printing process, thus simplifying the manufacturing process.
