On August 14, 1989, the Circuit County Courts of Cook County, Chicago, Illinois, declared the 1979 Gary Dotson rape invalid and ruled out the verdict. Mr. Dorsen, who served a prison sentence of 10 years and was subsequently released on parole, is not the first innocent prisoner in the history of the United States to be acquitted.
