Herschel Supply, the Canadian lifestyle brand’s first office in China, is hidden deep by a street in a residential area of Shanghai and interior design by Linehouse. After many old buildings in the residential area have been demolished, some ruins are left behind, and the design team can get a glimpse of the scenes and fragments of the past Shanghai daily life. In the urban renewal, the exterior of the house was partially peeled off, the mottled wall exposing the interior materials, the original building part cut, and some of the blank spaces filled. This design is around this demolition process, as well as the opposition and connection between public and private spaces.
