读者反应批评家对“读者”的不同定义反映了他们在研究目标、研究方法等方面存在着诸多差异。吉布森与里法泰尔强调文本的客观性及在意义生成过程中的规定性,采用的仍是结构主义方法;伊瑟尔向前迈进了一步,强调读者主动参与制造文本的意义,是作品的共同创造者;费什在这条路上走的更远,他认为阅读是体验,而不是对文本意义的解释;而卡勒则把制定理论的任务放在了首位,把具体的批评阐释放到了从属地位;而针对现实读者展开的实证研究,因其采用的定性定量的实验研究方法,可为文学研究的某些领域提供具有一定可靠性的答案。
Readers’ reaction The different definitions of “reader” by critics reflect their differences in research objectives, research methods and so on. Isell takes a step forward and emphasizes that the meaning of readers’ active participation in making texts is that of the works Co-creator; Fish went even further on this path, thinking that reading was an experience rather than an explanation of the meaning of the text; and that Carle took the task of formulating theory to the forefront and put specific criticism into it Subordinate position; and for the actual readers to carry out empirical research, because of its qualitative and quantitative experimental research methods, for some areas of literary research to provide a certain degree of reliability of the answer.
