颜体书法端庄开阔、朴实自然,放大之后更有气势,因此特别适合于题写牌匾碑文,同时十分适合官场文书等日常的应用。所以,颜体出现后就有许多人学习,但在最初的文献当中记载的相对较少。也许因为在当时人们的心目中,颜真卿的忠臣的形象太伟大了,而他在书法方面的成就被这宏大的名声完全掩盖了。因此,我们发现《旧唐书》中有“尤工书”三字,在《新唐书》中才有“善正草书,笔力遒婉,世宝传之”的评价。
