In order to change the relatively backward technical level of the Russian railway mainline locomotive, the Ministry of Transport of Russia, on the one hand, organizes efforts to develop new cars on the one hand and, on the other, it actively carries out cooperation with well-known large foreign companies. The ЭП 1 0 electric locomotive was jointly developed by the Russian Ministry of Transport and ADtranz. The electrical equipment is supplied by ADtranz, while the mechanical part is provided by Russia. The contract value of 2 1 trolley totaled 48 million euros. The first car was delivered in 1998. The locomotive can operate on AC 2 5 k V 5 0 Hz lines as well as DC 3 kV lines, using an asynchronous traction motor with a maximum speed of 160 km / h.
