Two post-socialist countries, Poland and Hungary, carried out family policy reforms in 1989 due to similar pressures. However, due to the impact of reform timing and other factors, a new system of family policies has been formed. This reform has harmed the mother who has young children, especially children under the age of two. The situation of gender equality after the reforms in Poland and Hungary not only failed to improve, but on the contrary tended to worsen as their new family policy system showed a clear “maternal” tendencies. In comparison, Polish women are in a more disadvantaged position.
