The concepts expressed by Chinese characters are closely related to nature and social life. By analyzing the syncretism of Xueshen’s pictographs in Xu Shen’s Shuo Wen Jie Zi, this essay probes into the natural and social life patterns of the ancestral times and their cognition of animals.
