Objective To investigate the expression of survivin and vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) in colon cancer and its relationship and clinical significance. Methods The expressions of survivin and VEGF-C in 35 cases of colon cancer and 15 cases of paracancerous tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results The positive rates of survivin and VEGF-C in colon cancer tissues were 60.0% and 65.7%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in non-cancerous tissues (13.3%, P <0.05). The expressions of survivin and VEGF-C were correlated with the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage (P <0.05 or P <0.01), but not with the gender, age, differentiation of colon cancer and distant metastasis ). Survivin and VEGF-C were positively correlated (P <0.01). Conclusions The expressions of survivin and VEGF-C in colon cancer tissues are increased and positively correlated. Both have a synergistic effect in lymphatic metastasis of colon cancer and jointly promote lymphatic metastasis of colon cancer.
