Zola La Neil Heston is an important novelist, folklorist and anthropologist in the history of American literature and is reputed to be the mother of black female literature. Her masterpiece, “They Look At God,” describes the bullying of black women under racial discrimination and gender oppression, and creates a heroine Jenny who is very different from the traditional black women. In order to fight for their own rights and true rights Love is hardship, is a full display of the awakening of black female consciousness works. She went through three marriages. During these three marriages, she constantly resisted oppression, pursued oneself and eventually gained equal status with men. She realized oneself and sought equality and harmony with men.
