As the representative of traditional Chinese culture, calligraphy and painting have a hard-to-be-distinguished relationship from the very beginning. Since they have different practical purposes, their respective characteristics of calligraphy and painting become more and more obvious. However, they are still essentially similar in nature. This is the traditional philosophical foundation of China. For instance, both of them emphasize the law (Tao or qi) of showing the eternal universe in their works. This paper tries to discuss the correlation between calligraphy and drawing by using pen in calligraphy and drawing, and discusses the related literature of the proposition in the past dynasties, and then draws the conclusion.
