(导读:越来越多的中国中小学生开始化妆了,这种现象在中国的学校是不提倡,甚至是反对的。在美国也是这样吗?)
I am working at an elementary school. I have noticed more and more students wearing make-up lately. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with it, and the school doesn’t have any rules in the handbook that forbids it.
Today I was talking to a friend on the phone. She started complaining about how her ten-year-old daughter was made to wash off her make-up by a teacher in one of her classes. My friend was upset because her daughter was only wearing lip gloss and a bit of mascara, but the teacher thought she looked like she was going out to a club.
So, it kind of got me thinking. Is wearing make-up allowed at your school? Does it depend on how much you are wearing or how noticeable it is?
This question is more suitable for middle school and elementary school teachers, but I think there is a chance that make-up isn’t allowed in some high schools. A teacher from Ohio replied: We do have a rule that students can not wear any make-up, not even lip gloss. Boys and girls are not allowed to wear perfume or cologne either, because it may make some students physically uncomfortable. Personally, I am glad we have this rule. Some of my boys wear too much cologne and it gives me a headache.
A teacher from Kansas pointed out: It differs between schools here, but wearing make-up was allowed when I was a kid. I remember experimenting with it a little around 6th grade. There aren’t any rules about it in my middle or high school.
(Does your school allow students to wear make-up? What do you think of students wearing make-up?)
Vocabulary
lip gloss n. 唇彩
mascara n. 睫毛膏
perfume n. 香水
cologne n. 古龙水
