The continuous huge trade surplus has caused unbalanced international payment. In 2006, the trade surplus reached US$177.6 billion. This has had a negative impact on the country’s foreign trade development, and is therefore a detriment to the healthy development of the national economy. The government has attached great importance to this issue, and is ready to take effective measures to deal with it. In the Fifth Annual Conference of China Import & Export Enterprises, which was sponsored by the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce, and also by China Eximbank, government leaders and financial leaders put forward suggestions about how to face this problem.
