: “Little World” is the most influential British contemporary novel translated to mainland China in the 1990s. However, in the past ten years of research, one of the important features of this work - carnivalescent spirit is rarely discussed. The article explains the relationship between Lodge’s creation and Bakhtin’s theory in a new perspective: The first part reveals the main contents of the “small world”, the characteristics of the characters, the consistency between the “small world” scene and the medieval civil square and Its polyphony and spatial form. The second part illustrates the “small world” as a parody of the legend of the ancient knight (the legend of King Arthur) in the aspects of the source of the story, the structure of the subject and the setting of characters. The third part analyzes the theme of “the small world” (Barrenness and salvation) and the formality of language (solemn and banter). The article holds that “small world” has obvious carnivalesque spirit.
