树木变的石头,叫做木化石。我国的木化石产地很多。北起黑龙江,南到广东,东自江苏,西至新疆,几乎都有发现。有趣的是,最古老的木化石是近年来才发现的,如在湖南澧县一带,发现了距今3.6亿年左右的中泥盆世晚期的植物化石。古生代的鳞木类化石在山西晋城一带也有发现。20世纪50年代初期,在陕西省上二叠纪地层中产的炬木现在还陈列在南京地质陈列馆门前。在我国 Trees become stones, called wood fossils.
