Japanese-American American writer Yamashita Karen wrote about the city of Los Angeles in her representative novel The Tide of Oranges, showing her expectation of an ideal homeland, or “decentralization.” Yamashita Karen made a lengthy historical writing and horizontal space writing for Los Angeles. The way of historical writing she adopted was parchment writing; the way of space writing was that she chose “tuber” writing. Parchment-style historical writing aims to uncover the many sides and layers of history, while the “tuber” writing points to the openness and mobility of space. It is through these two ways of writing, under the Karen gave us outlined a diverse and diverse home, a noisy ideal paradise.
