Multi-channel seismic drag arrays have traditionally been used to investigate sediments, and this article describes the experiments used to explore igneous crust. Seismic exploration experiments were conducted with multiple drag arrays in two remote areas of the Pacific Plate, east of the Japan Trench and at the top of the Pacific Rim. The result is that both regions reveal strong reflections from the Moho. Other experiments have also shown that there are reflective layers in the igneous crust. Such as Pacific Rung Lung, Flynn Terrace, the Norwegian Sea and the Caribbean Sea. This article also discusses new techniques for data acquisition and processing applicable to deep crust studies. These new technologies include extended alignment, constant offset profiles, and “Array Magnification”, both of which require the use of two workboats and the seismic data must be converted to the τ-P domain for analysis.
