In 2004,two brick-chamber tombs of the Eastern Han Dynasty were excavated at Xinglong Village, Hengyang City, Hunan Province. Both tombs are in rectangular plan and with vaulted ceilings, the M1 of which has ante-and rear-chambers and the M2, single chamber with tunnel-shaped entrance. The grave goods are mainly potteries, including stoneware and earthenware, the former of which are mostly practical utensils and the latter, funeral objects. Wuzhu coins and inscribed bricks with dates “元和四年七月廿日 (the fourth year of Yuanhe Era, the twentieth day of the seventh month, 87 CE)” and “永元三年八月一日 (the third year of Yongyuan Era, the first day of the eighth month, 91 CE)” are also unearthed from M2, providing important data for the chronological study of these tombs. These two tombs would have been buried in the early Eastern Han Dynasty.
