二十世纪上半叶的中国作家和日本作家都是在国家意识觉醒和民族主义精神高涨的背景上展开自己的话语行为。在民众被高度“国民化”的时代作家不可避免地会被“国民化”,“国民”的内在规定性及其话语行为主体与这种内在规定性之间保持怎样的关系,决定着话语的基本内容与形态。
