Asian protagonists in “The Wanderers” speak in a postmodern, cosmopolitan voice that is incompatible with the notions of being confined to national categories and national identities. While advocating a transcendence of the nation, the novel has mercilessly ridiculed and criticized the hypocrisy of Australian nationalism.
