Objective: To investigate the effect of Angelica sinensis polysaccharide with different concentrations on hepcidin expression in chronic inflammatory anemia (ACD) rat model. METHODS: Animal models of ACD were established by plantar injection of 100 μL Mycobacterium tuberculosis Freund’s complete adjuvant (CFA) into SD male rats. The model was used to compare the hepatic hepcidin expression in the drug-treated (Angelica sinensis) polysaccharide group with the non-intervention group and the normal control group. Results: The expression of hepcidin in ACD group was significantly increased and the anemia was obvious. After administration of Angelica sinensis polysaccharide (ASP), the expression of hepcidin decreased and the anemia improved. Conclusion: Angelica polysaccharide may inhibit the inflammatory response through the similar pathway of erythropoietin (EPO) and reduce the production of inflammatory cytokines. At the same time, inhibiting the expression of hepcidin increases the iron content of ACD model, which helps to prevent the development of inflammatory cytokines and anemia and provides a new strategy for the treatment of ACD.
