Objective To investigate the expression and correlation of aquaporin 1 (AQP1) and aquaporin 5 (AQP5) in different cervical epithelial lesions. Methods The expressions of AQP1 and AQP5 in 43 cases of cervical squamous cell carcinoma, 49 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and 21 cases of normal cervical tissue were detected by immunohistochemistry. The correlation between them was analyzed. Results The positive rates of AQP1 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma and CIN tissues were 90.70% and 77.55%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in normal cervical tissues (42.86%, P <0.01) (P> 0.05). The positive rates of AQP1 in LSIL and HSIL were 80.00% and 75.86%, respectively, with no difference Statistical significance (P> 0.05). The expression of AQP1 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma was not related to age and histological grade (P> 0.05). The positive expression of AQP5 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma, CIN and normal cervical tissue The expression rates of AQP5 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma were significantly higher than those in CIN and normal cervical tissues (P <0.05, P <0.01). The expression of AQP5 in CIN (P <0.01). The positive expression rates of AQP5 in LSIL and HSIL were 55.00% and 51.72% respectively, with no significant difference (P> 0.05). The positive rates of AQP5 in LSIL and HSIL were significantly higher than those in normal cervical tissues The expression of AQP5 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma was not related with age and histological grade (P> 0.05). AQP1, A QP5 expression in tumor tissue no correlation (P> 0.05). Conclusion AQP1 and AQP5 are up - regulated in CIN and cervical squamous cell carcinoma, both of which may promote the development and progression of cervical cancer by increasing the permeability of vascular endothelial cells and tumor cells to water respectively.
