Foreword Sugimoto Masaaki has concluded that Japan’s study of the history of Mongolia has two new developments: the rise of stone inscription and the rise of clerical studies. As to the former, since 1989, when Yang Zhi-jiu pointed out that “metaphysicism” (equivalent to what Morita said by Morita) is “metaphysical” in the study of Japanese Yuan history, steady progress has been made in this regard so far. With regard to the latter, with the publication and discovery of multilingual historical materials and the consolidation of instruments, the research work is proceeding.
