<正>Given the importance of the Chinese business in the British colonial and Malaysian national economy and the recovery, any revisit to the Malaysian experience would be inadequate without looking into the Chinese responses. This paper is focused on the responses of the Malaysian Chinese enterprises towards the crisis. The responses not only refers to the technical business strategy in coping with the crisis, but also implies that, from the Chinese business point of view, how the crisis will be perceived and tackled in the context of historical, structural and social-political dimensions and consequences. Therefore,it is important that the responses by the ethnic Chinese enterprises should be examined in a long-term perspective by looking into their business strategies in the great depression in the 1930s and the financial crisis in the late 1990s.
