Promoting Learner Autonomy in Vocational Colleges Via Corpus-Based English Vocabulary Teaching

Recently,the higher education is becoming more and more popular.thenumber of vocational college students accounts for more than half of the students whoenjoy higher education,and they are the backbone of the high technology in the future.Today,the knowledge updates rapidly,and the vocationaJ college students have theability to acquire new knowledge of the industry,by this they do better when theystart working,so we should comoine ability cultivating and knowledge teachingclosely in English teaching classes of vocational colleges.However,it is generallyacknowledged that the basis of the majority of vocational students English level ispoor,and their attitudes to English are weary.The author believed that by using thecorpus in the actual teaching,it was useful to develop the students comprehensivecapacity and improve the effectiveness of English teaching.   At first,the paper describes the theoretical basis of the research,anddiscussed the related concepts of the corpus and independent study in detail.On thebasis of conducting the previous research with an overall review,the author analyzedthe purpose,significance and research methods of the study.Then,it analyzed thepractical application of corpus in English vocabulary self-leaming,including theconstruction of corpus,the role corpus played in English vocabulary self-leaming,andthe teachers roles in self-teaching process with the use of corpus.In the process ofpractical investigation and analysis,this paper conducted a questionnaire survey onvocational students to analyze the performances of students before and after the use ofteaching methods with corpus,and then conducted the actual impact on vocationalstudents English vocabulary self-learning with the use of corpus.At last,the authorconcluded that:the use of the corpus a significant effect on vocational studentsEnglish vocabulary self-leaming,and is a powerful tool to promote them to doself-study better.   As a new learning resource,corpus is not only a chaljenge for traditionalteachers,but is also a new way provided to English teaching.It complemented andextended the classroom teaching,and also stimulated the interest of learners in activelearning,expanded the learners thinking,and was also helpful to develop theirabijities of self-discovery and problem-solving Therefore,it is very necessary tointroduce the English language corpus associated with the real-Jife situation with theEnglish teaching of vocational institutions.At the same time,it also promotedteaching by melting the complemented corpus materials into the core corpusmaterials.
