The thesis analyses the intepsretation process of five linguisticattention-attracting devices, namely, pun, metaphor, hyperbole, irony andrepetition to reveal how audiences acquire optimal relevance. The five devicesnot only attract audiences attention but also serve to retain their attention byinvolving them in the interpretation process.It can be seen that the attention-attracting devices are very important for theaudience to understand these headlines. It is these devices that give impetusto the audiences inforential process and direct him towards optimalrelevance.The thesis points out the importance of attracting the audiences attention andanalyzes the interpretation process of five linguistic devices. It is hoped thatthe study can help advertisers deepen their understanding of the audiencesinterpretation process of advertisements and hence produce more effectiveadvertisements.The analysis of the thesis of the five devices is expected to give insights intothe way in which ordinary communication works despite the specialcharacteristics of advertising as communication.
