President Dilma Rousseff got impeached in 2014 and in 2018,when Brazil elected its first opposition candidate of the Workers Party（Partido dos Trabalhadores）in 14 years,citizens have increasingly reached out for news on social networking sites.Around 64% of Brazilians reported getting news from social media in 2019,and 54% source news from Facebook alone.A survey conducted with 221 respondents from Brazil explored the relationship between specific uses of Facebook（Facebook Political News Consumption and News Sharing）and known political variables（Political Cynicism,Political Efficacy and Political Participation）.This research found that this specific Facebook uses and Internal Political Efficacy have a positive correlation,while the relationship with Online and Offline Participation was negative.Considering the extreme polarized political situation in Brazil and that political participation levels are known to be related to a functioning society,this research also proposed three hypothesis to investigate the relationship between the other political variables.Furthermore,there are no quantitative researches on this topic in Brazil and,it is important to investigate if the theories developed in the U.S.are also valid for developing countries with a different cultural background.Despite the findings in the U.S.,this research found opposite results to theories,where political cynicism has a positive relationship to offline participation and internal political efficacy has a negative relationship to online and offline participation.
