In the Tang Dynasty, “the spread of scholarship” originated in three cultural backgrounds, namely, the appearance of the imperial examination system, the emphasis on the contemporary style of Jinshi and the unqualified examination system. According to the 5W theory of Las Vegas’ s 5G theory - the author, the content (message), the media, the recipient and the effect, the author made a systematic study on the process of interpersonal communication in the Tang Dynasty. The investigation and the discovery that “the circulation of scholars’ books” had far-reaching influence on the social and political structure and literary prosperity of the Tang Dynasty were one of the important reasons for the political restructuring and literary prosperity in the Tang Dynasty. Under the perspective of intercultural communication, this paper interprets a phenomenon of interpersonal communication in ancient China by using Western communication theory framework and makes a bold attempt for the localization of the study of communication science.
